The Park Post - Week #27
Dear Park Families,
Bookworm Week is a smashing success! Thanks to everyone who donated books, donated their time, and brought their kids by to pick out news books for home. The secret sauce for most kids with regard to learning to read is to read. The more we do it the better we get. At whatever level, practicing reading independently or with an adult leads to enhanced reading skills.
This weather is something else although we welcome a little less heat at recess! Have a nice weekend.

Sick or Absent Child?
Please call the attendance line (415-389-7735 ext 2390) or email Anne Malvaux (amalvaux@mvschools.org) when your child is absent for sickness, travelling or Dr visits, etc. before 9:00 am. If you message your child’s teacher, please CC Anne in the office. For safety reasons and accountability, it is really helpful to receive this information early in the day. Thank you.
Attention 4th and 5th Grade Parents!
All 4th and 5th grade MVSD parents are invited to a special evening of connecting and community. We’ll learn why parenting tech gets trickier with tweens, what challenges are ahead of us in middle school, and how a group of last year’s 5th grade parents used collective action to get ahead of it all!

Park School Tree Work
As part of our ongoing Tree assessments, the District recently obtained an arborist assessment for the mature elm tree adjacent to the Park Elementary parking lot. While the report did not identify the tree as an immediate emergency, it did note structural concerns, crown decline, and dead and dying branches. Based on that assessment, the District will move forward with removing the tree as a precautionary safety measure. The work will be scheduled on an upcoming weekend.

Superintendent Report - March 20, 2026
Elizabeth is continuing with her medical treatments and began a course of chemotherapy this week. As she focuses on her health, she will be in and out of the office in alignment with her treatment schedule. We are keeping her in our thoughts and wish her strength and a smooth recovery. During the times when Elizabeth is out, Esmeralda Mondragon is continuing to support our team and helping to ensure continuity in our work.
During Elizabeth’s visits to elementary sites last week, she observed students fully engaged in their learning and involved in hands-on experiences that promote learning through explorations and curiosity, including lessons on germs, explorations of owl pellets, studies of early Americans, and a special visit from a service dog. In math, students were also building their understanding of volume through interactive activities. These moments reflect the strong instructional practices and enthusiasm for learning across our schools.
We are proud to implement a new cycle of professional development aimed to support this learning. Elementary grade-level teams are participating in full-day sessions designed to support guided instruction and collaborative planning, providing valuable time for teachers to align practices, share strategies, and strengthen instruction across classrooms.
