The Park Post - Week #24

Posted Date: 02/28/26 (12:00 PM)

Dear Park Families,

I know you join me in sending our thoughts and love to those families and community members impacted by the tragedy at Castle Peak.  We are here to support anyone who may need assistance in any way, including due to the unimaginable circumstances in Tahoe.  If you or your child needs to check in, please reach out to me or our school counselor, Brandon Mohan, at bmohan@mvschools.org

We are really getting after it here at Park with a solid 6 weeks of learning and growing before Spring Break.   The staff and I spent yesterday afternoon reviewing our Family and Student Survey data and I will be following up with you in the coming weeks after our school site council has also had a chance to review your input.  Thanks to those families that found the time to fill out the survey.  You may also get some follow up questions from your child’s teacher or grade level team depending upon the feedback they received from you and their students.

Have a great weekend and please reach out at any time with questions or concerns.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Enrollment Update

Thank you to all families who submitted their TK enrollment applications. If you completed your enrollment before January 30, 2026, you should have received an acknowledgment email confirming receipt of your application.

Families who met this deadline will receive notification of their child’s school placement in May. We will continue to accept enrollment applications; however, notification of school placement will not be available in May for applications submitted after the deadline. All eligible students will be placed in one of our schools.

We look forward to welcoming our newest learners!

Landlines and Tin Can - March 3rd at 12 noon

Lunch & Learn: Landlines and Tin Can

Kids want to communicate - that hasn’t changed over the years! In the late elementary and tween years, budding friendships mean many kids want a way to connect with friends and plan outings. The solution: the revival of the landline, reinvented for the digital age. Bringing back a home phone helps delay mobile phones and texting AND teaches phone etiquette and conversation skills! ScreenSense team will go over options and answer questions.

Superintendent Report - February 27, 2026

The Board agenda for the March 5, 2025 Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees includes a budget update titled “2025–2026 Second Interim Report”. This report captures District revenues and expenditures through January 31, 2026. It follows the 2025–2026 First Interim Report, presented in December 2025, which reflected our financial status through October 31, 2025.

In December and January, District staff hosted drop-in meetings at each school site to update the community on the District’ financials. These presentations highlighted an ongoing deficit of approximately $2.2 million associated with the projected addition of nine Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classes in 2026–2027. Updated enrollment projections now indicate the need for twelve TK classes, increasing the projected deficit to approximately $3.1 million.

We are committed to transparency and clarity in our District’s budget. To that end, a Special Board Budget Study Session will be held on March 10 at 6:00 p.m. in the Middle School Library. We invite all members of our community to attend to learn more about District finances and our current budget status.

Announcement: Join our Community Financial Advisory Committee (CFAC)

The Mill Valley School District is reestablishing our Community Financial Advisory Committee (CFAC) as a sub-committee of our Budget Advisory Committee.  We invite community members to apply.

We are seeking Mill Valley residents and registered voters with experience or interest in finance, budgeting, policy, or financial planning who are willing to serve a two-year term. Meetings are held quarterly.

This is a meaningful opportunity to lend your expertise and help ensure a strong financial future for our schools and students.  Learn more and apply on the District website (www.mvschools.org/cfac).

As we continue to work to make our practices accessible, we appreciate the continued collaboration of our labor partners, budget advisory committee, and community-based parcel tax committee in supporting our District.
